Holiday Photos, Part II

We never did finish posting pictures from the second half of our holiday in the Northwest. Here they are. With Jim, our host at the Rain Forest Hostel near Forks, Washington.

On one of our many ferry rides.

In Seattle we spent lunch and an afternoon with my cousin Kristy. Here we are near Pike's Place Market.

At the first Starbuck's. Should have gotten a better picture on such an occasion.

In Vancouver, we stayed with Anneli (Bryan friend) and her husband Cody. They made us a delicious Thai meal.

Henrik is setting out from Cody and Anneli's front door to explore the neighborhood. We like to call him Little Bear.

Father's Day

Ashlee and my parents visited this past weekend. Despite the crazy hot weather we had a good time. Here are a few pictures Ashlee took:

Pounding on the piano...

Afternoon at the country club. Mmm, okay, the Bryan pool.

At the Chattanooga Lookouts game. It was 97 degrees at 7:15pm when the game started. That's actual degrees, not heat index. Ugh.

Low-country boil for Father's Day lunch.

Cleaning

Sorry if your blog has been removed from our sidebar. I took you off if you don't post very often. Hypocritical, perhaps. But it looks nice and neat, don't you think?

Holiday on the Olympic Penninsula

We are about halfway through our holiday. We've planned our trip not as an escape from the day-to-day but as an enrichment of our life together.

The first leg of our journey took us to Whidbey Island for the Summer Institute for Spiritual Formation. Beautiful setting, beautiful people, beautiful time.
The view from our beach on Whidbey.

A harbor seal at Whale Watch Park on Friday Island (no whales, though).

Family picture near the ferry dock on Friday Island.

We are now in the rather quirky Forks, Washington. This is the gateway to the Hoh temperate rainforest and... the setting of the Twilight series. Yes. And we did the tour. We even ran into the Cullens (okay, we were taking a photo of their mailbox) and got autographs and pics with them, so we'll post those soon.

In the rainforest.

Henrik. Because he is cute.

La Yaourt

This morning I made yogurt for le bebe! And I found an inspiring website that I want someone else to be very excited about. Someone excited enough to move to our back yard and raise dairy goats and make handmade cheeses with me. Thanks, Dr. Fankhauser for your expertise. The yogurt is yummy...

Be Disturbed. Merry Christmas!

During the holiday season, when we get around to the "meaning of Christmas," most of us think of a warm scene in a stable with serene characters surrounding the new baby. Nice. Just really nice. Cozy. Well, the below excerpt (from a column published in WORLD magazine by William H. Smith, Dec. 26, 1992) helps me to add a litle dimention to my picture.

"Why aren’t people disturbed by Christmas?.... Don’t miss my point. There is something truly comforting and warming about the Christmas story, but it comes from understanding the reality, not from denying it. Most of us also have not come to terms with the baby in the manger. We sing, 'Glory to the newborn King.' But do we truly recognize that the baby lying in the manger is appointed by God to be the King, to be either the Savior or Judge of all people? He is a most threatening person."
