Be Disturbed. Merry Christmas!

During the holiday season, when we get around to the "meaning of Christmas," most of us think of a warm scene in a stable with serene characters surrounding the new baby. Nice. Just really nice. Cozy. Well, the below excerpt (from a column published in WORLD magazine by William H. Smith, Dec. 26, 1992) helps me to add a litle dimention to my picture.

"Why aren’t people disturbed by Christmas?.... Don’t miss my point. There is something truly comforting and warming about the Christmas story, but it comes from understanding the reality, not from denying it. Most of us also have not come to terms with the baby in the manger. We sing, 'Glory to the newborn King.' But do we truly recognize that the baby lying in the manger is appointed by God to be the King, to be either the Savior or Judge of all people? He is a most threatening person."

Attack Your To-Do's

"No unwelcome tasks become any the less unwelcome by putting them off till tomorrow. It is only when they are behind us and done, that we begin to find that there is a sweetness to be tasted afterwards, and that the remembrance of unwelcome duties unhesitatingly done is welcome and pleasant. Accomplished, they are full of blessing, and there is a smile on their faces as they leave us. Undone, they stand threatening and disturbing our tranquility, and hindering our communion with God. If there be lying before you any bit of work from which you shrink, go straight up to it, and do it at once. The only way to get rid of it is to do it."

-Alexander MacLaren (1826–1910), Scottish preacher

Smiles, etc.

While Ben was in Providence last week, my parents came for a visit. Here are some photos from our time-- isn't Henrik so big? He had his 2-month well-baby appointment on Monday and measured 24 inches!

New Photos of Henrik...

Well, Ben is off of work today. He is traveling next week to a conference in Providence (where he will also visit with Andy and Shannon!), so took today as comp time.
We're having coffee and figuring out the computer so that we can share some photos with you all-- enjoy!
Oh-- they're not in chronological order. Sorry. I'm just going to feel good about getting them posted at all...
